150 Words About . . .LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2008)
by James Newman
Let the Right One In is a stylish, haunting horror film. It’s also a poignant look at friendship. I can’t remember another movie that creeped me out while at the same time bringing a tear to my eye. Based on a novel by “the Swedish Stephen King”, Let the Right One In is a vampire movie that dares to do something different with a classic monster. A bullied teenager befriends a girl (or is she?) who drinks blood to survive . . . but can even the strongest of friendships truly last forever?
Chloe Grace-Moretz (Kick-Ass) starred in a 2010 American remake, and that’s worth a watch too. But we’re talking about the original here . . .
Few films are perfect. Except for a single scene with some wonky CGI (I suppose it’s not easy to coax a clowder of cats to attack a human), this one comes close.
