150 Words About . . .NIGHT OF THE CREEPS (1986)
By James Newman
Night of the Creeps knows exactly what it is, and it never aspires to be more: a B-movie roller-coaster ride full of aliens, zombies, and oh-so-quotable dialogue. When the students of a small college are infected by brain-eating slugs from outer space that get in through your mouth, the powers-that-be have a lot more to fret about than keg parties and plummeting GPA’s! Enter a grizzled detective with a dark past (genre legend Tom Atkins, whose presence alone makes this one worth watching again and again), and you’ve got all the ingredients of a classic horror-comedy. Its tagline might be the coolest from any horror film ever: “The good news is, your dates are here. The bad news is . . . they’re dead.”
Turn your brain off (or give it to the slugs) and you’re guaranteed to have a blast. ‘Creeps is one of the best of the ‘80s.
