150 Words About . . .CAVEAT (2020)

by James Newman

Something traumatic happened to Isaac. He can’t remember what. Enter an old friend with a strange job offer. Isaac’s buddy wants him to move into a house on a remote island, where he’ll be watching over the guy’s niece for a while. Since the young lady carries even more baggage than our hero, Isaac must wear a heavy chain that allows him to roam around without getting close to her. The kid’s semi-catatonic for most of his stay . . . when she’s not pointing her crossbow at him. Caveat keeps you wondering what it’s about – is this a ghost story, a crime/revenge tale, or something more bizarre? A swerve around the halfway point nearly lost me, but I was promptly jerked back in like Isaac on his chain.

One thing’s for sure:  this effective fright flick from Ireland features the creepiest rabbit since that floppy-eared nightmare in Donnie Darko.
